Daniel Hughes played a crucial 85-run inning and helped Sydney Sixers register a 3-wicket win over Brisbane Heat in a thrilling match, today at The Gabba. He was also named Man of the Match for his excellent 85 runs which came off just 55 balls with the help of 7 fours and 4 sixes.
While batting first after losing the toss, Heat managed to set a target of 187 runs for the Sixers to chase. For Heat, Jimmy Peirson (44) and Brandon McCullum (30) provided great start with quick 71-run opening stand in just 7 overs. Although Joe Burns (55*) remained the top-scorer with his unbeaten 55-run inning because of the which the Heat managed to put 186 runs on the board. For Sixers, Johan Botha and Sean Abbott took 2 and 3 wickets, while Henry Thornton managed to take 1 wicket.
187-run target seemed enough for the Heat’s bowler to register an easy win and they even started well by sending Jason Roy (7) back to pavilion on the 1st ball of the 3rd over, however, Sixers another opener, Daniel Hughes (85), had some other plans and stayed at the crease until the last over. Brad Haddin (32) was another Sixers batsman who played an important inning of quick 32 runs which came off just 13 balls and that inning proved to be the match turner at last.
In the end, Sean Abbott finished the match with a six and Sixers register a win over Heat with 3 wickets in hand and 2 balls to spare. For Heat, Ben Cutting and Mitchell Swepson shared 4 wickets among them.
